Who are we?
Jacksonville Pipes and Drums (formerly St Andrews Pipes and Drums) has been incorporated as a not-for-profit
organization since 1984 and is a proud member of both the
Southern United States Pipe Band Association and
Eastern United States Pipe Band Association.
The band holds a strong commitment to playing traditional Irish and Scottish music for both public and private audiences. We have had the honor of welcoming His Royal Highness, Prince Edward while in Jacksonville as well as participating in the presence of the Archbishop of Canterbury and, the University of North Florida commencement exercises.
We also perform in parades, parties, festivals and yes, even the occasional Irish pub or two.
Members of the band compete as a group as well as individually in various South East U.S. competitions in the spirit of improving their performances for all audiences.
Scholarships are provided to interested members and prospective members of the band with the understanding that they will return to the band with improved skills that can be used to enhance our mission of providing Celtic Arts in public performances. Past recipients of scholarships have volunteered as instructors. Other recipients shared notes they took while at piping, drumming, or Highland dance school. Since all band members are volunteers, and all are employed outside the Pipe Band, we do not expect scholarship recipients to guarantee they will remain in the area nor to fill certain positions for a fixed time period. We simply state the expectation that the skills they gain while at schools sponsored by the band be shared in some way with current or future members of the band. This scholarship program is offered in conjunction with the Jacksonville St Andrews Society and the scholarship offered through the annual Northeast Florida Highland Games.
